Three high school athletes from local schools have been selected to play in summer all-star games.
Taylor Bitterman, a recent graduate of Lebanon High School, was selected for the Senior State-Metro All-Star baseball game, held June 14-15 in Bend.
The all-star team was coached by Don Senestraro of Ashland, who led the Grizzlies to the 5A state title this year.
Bitterman was named second team all-Mid-Willamette Conference at third base in 2007 and first team at designated hitter in 2008. This season he also earned several team awards: the American Legion Most Valuable Player award, the Dr. David R. Reid Merit award and the Brett Christenson Memorial Scholarship.
Michael Kruesi, a recent graduate of East Linn Christian Academy, was selected for the Gatorade/OACA basketball all-star series, June 20-12.
Kruesi is one of 12 players selected for the 2A North team, coached by Shane Mast of North Douglas and Pete Potloff of Salem Academy.
At East Linn, Kruesi averaged more than 20 points and three steals per game his senior season.
For the series, seniors boys compete in two games against other all stars from their classification. Players were chosen by a committee of coaches from each classification.
The June 20 games are at Northwest Christian College in Eugene and starts at 1:30 p.m. The June 21 games are at Clackamas Community College in Oregon City, also at 1:30 p.m.
Football player Colton Hackstedt, a recent graduate of Lebanon High School, was selected for the Les Schwab Bowl but did not play due to a scheduling conflict.
