Warriors excel in field events

The domination of the field events led the Lebanon men's track and field team to an 86-59 Mid-Willamette Conference win over visiting Dallas on April 8.

The Warriors had individual champions in five of the seven field events to make up for their lack of success in the track events.

Lebanon took the top three spots in the pole vault, long jump, triple jump and javelin.

Kenny Fontanos and Brad Stagnoli tied for first in the pole vault, reaching a height of 11 feet.

Marcus Greenly took the long jump title with a leap of 19 feet, 9.75 inches. He also came in second in the triple jump (39-1.25), finishing behind teammate L.T. Avants (39-1.75).

The javelin title went to Lebanon's Eric Florek (141-6).

Stuart Roosa came in second in the javelin (140-0) followed by teammate Kyler Garcia (138-9).

In the field events, the Warriors' Brendon Richards took first place in the 100-meter dash (11.83 seconds) and 110-meter hurdles (16.28).

Richards also led Lebanon at the Springfield Twilight Invitational at Silke Field in Springfield.

Richards took first place in both hurdles events. He finished the 110-meter hurdles in 15.60 and the 300-meter hurdles in 41.80.

Nine other teams joined Lebanon including 5A schools Century, Crescent Valley, Silverton, Springfield and West Albany; 4A schools Cottage Grove and Pleasant Hill; and 1A schools Lowell and McKenzie.

Also finishing well for the Warriors was Shanks, who took second in the 300-meter hurdles (43.00) and third in the 400 (54.50).

Next up is a MWC meet at West Albany today, April 15.
