Despite losing twice last week, the Lebanon High School women's soccer team showed that they have the potential for a successful season.
Both losses were close. The first came at the hands of Century on Sept. 4. The Jaguars jumped to a 3-0 lead in the first half.
"I thought the first half was really sloppy and very unenergized," said head coach Rusty Gorham.
But the rest of the game was completely the opposite, as Lebanon scored twice to pull the score to 3-2.
Rose Ragsdale scored the first goal and Carly Armstrong got the second on a corner kick.
"It was pretty much a tale of two halves," Gorham said.
On Saturday, the Warriors fell 1-0 to St. Helens in what Gorham called "probably the best game I've seen in years."
St. Helens scored their only goal in the first 25 minutes, but Lebanon keeper Coddie Marshall wouldn't let them get any other shots in the net.
"She had a ton of saves," Gorham said. "You could even hear them 'oohing' and 'ahing' 'cause she was getting saves that other keepers don't get."
Starters Armstrong, Ragsdale, Emily King, Khari Wright, Kim Duerr, Katie Albion and Melissa Cordero played the entire game and never gave up, Gorham said.
He liked how the Warriors played as a unit.
Lebanon plays at Willamette on Thursday. On Saturday, they host Marshfield. "I think we have the ability to win both those games if we play like we did the other night," Gorham said.
