The Winter Rod and Speed Show, a benefit event, is slated for Jan. 5 at the Linn County Fair and Expo Center. The indoor show will feature show cars, street rods, race cars, exotics and even a hydroplane.
All of the proceeds from the show will go to help Jeff Lauener, who is the current crew chief for racer Rich Bailey on the Capitol Auto Group Dragster. Lauener, who is slowly recovering from a recent stroke, is paralyzed and unable to work.
"For years we have been doing benefit car shows for people in similar situations that we didn't initially know," Bailey said. "Now we're doing it for someone in our own
racing family."
Featured show cars include the "Shock and Awe" Pacer Wagon that was three years in the making. The Pacer features an engine that exceeds the roofline of the car. Other headliners include the "Thunder T" Ford Roadster, the "Black Pearl" pirate-themed 200 MPH nitro-burning dragster, and a 1957 Chevy "funny car," plus many more entries from Oregon and Washington.
The car show runs from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., with discount coupons available at all mid-valley NAPA stores.
There will be a model car contest and people of any age who bring a model to the show get half off the regular admission price. Regular admission to the show only $6. Kids age 10 and under are free. Also included in the show are raffles and a silent auction. One of the prizes is a custom built transmission from Canby Transmission.
"This is the first indoor car show in Albany in several years and it will be a lot like the popular 'The World of Wheels' shows," Bailey said. "It's going to be a fun show with a wide variety of cars and things to see and do. We will have a mountain of prizes to give away throughout the event. This show is all about having fun and raising money for someone in need all at the same time."
There are a few spots remaining for entries. For an application or more information, visit www.capracing. com or call Bailey at (503) 370-9164.
