Sara Aikin (LHS 2004) competed for the Corban College track team this spring. In her debut 10,000-meter race on April 26, Aikin turned in a time of 43 minutes, 50.79 seconds to finish in second place. In her second attempt at the distance, she placed ninth in the conference. Last season, she was all-conference at 5,000 meters.

Aikin, a senior, also competes for Corban's cross country team. She competed for Corban and was a team captain all four years of her collegiate career.

She was named Cascade Collegiate Conference all-academic team this spring and fall. She was a three-time academic All-American for Corban.

In April, Aikin was honored with the college's Mighty Warrior award, which is given to "an athlete from each sport who best models the spiritual warrior characteristics of truthfulness, standing firm in the faith, and preparedness for the challenges of the Christian's life (Ephesians 6:13-18)," according to Corban's website. "The award selections are also based upon the five NAIA Champions of Character values: respect, responsibility, integrity, sportsmanship, and servant leadership." Aikin was the women's cross county representative for the award.

"She's a leader in so many ways, she's like having another coach there," said Norm Berney, head cross country and track coach. "If you had 10-15 girls like her, you wouldn't even have to come to practice."

Aikin will graduate with an education degree. She plans to become a teacher.

"We're really gonna miss her," Berney said. "You just can't replace someone like that."

Drew George (LHS 2004) recently wrapped up his second season with the Oregon State University baseball team. The senior finished the season with a .322 batting average. He played 45 games this season with 152 at-bats and 36 runs. His 49 hits included eight doubles, two triples, three home runs and 28 RBI. He was a perfect 7-for-7 in stolen base attempts.

The third-baseman had 72 put-outs and 68 assists.

George hit two home runs in OSU's March 10 game against San Diego State, the most home runs in a game by a Beaver this season. In that same game, he drove in six runs. He was named to the all-tournament team for his performance.

George played at Lower Columbia Community College for two years before signing with OSU. In 2005, he was drafted by the White Sox but deferred to take the opportunity to play Division I baseball. In his first season at Corvallis, the Beavers successfully defended their national championship title.

Nate Hiebert (LHS 2007) , a freshman at Corban College, has been an offensive force for the Warriors. He was named Cascade Collegiate Conference Player of the Week in March, thanks largely to a combined 9-for-15 week that included two runs and two RBI. He has taken a turn on the mound as well, pitching in five appearances, including a perfect inning on March 4.

Hiebert's season batting average was .248. He had 105 at-bats in 29 games and turned in 15 runs, 26 hits and eight RBI. He was 5-for-5 in stolen base attempts.

Corban finished the season 6-12 in CCC play.

Brent Trask (LHS 2006) played baseball for Linn-Benton Community College. He had 13 runs, 22 hits and seven RBI in 26 games played, with a batting average of .328. He was voted first team all-NWAACC catcher for the South region. LBCC finished the season with an overall record of 32-17 and shared the South region NWAACC conference title with Mt. Hood Community College.

Trask signed with Oregon Institute of Technology for the 2009 season and plans to major in Civil Engineering. The Owls, who compete in the

Cascade Collegiate Conference, finished the 2008 season at

22-30 overall.
