South and West Albany basketball teams claimed wins over the Lebanon women last week.

The Rebels overcame a 26-22 halftime deficit to defeat Lebanon 52-41 on Feb. 4.

Veronica Steward was the defensive spark for LHS against South Albany. Unfortunately, Steward got into foul trouble and couldn't finish the game.

On Feb. 6, the Bulldogs handed LHS a 68-46 loss.

Starter Kim Duerr, who is recovering from illness, got the Warriors going on the scoreboard early and finished with 11 points.

"That was good to see," said LHS coach Mardy Benedict.

The young Warriors are still looking for their confidence.

"We continue to come out with a lot of energy early and then go into some offensive shooting woes which gets us thinking too much and not just playing," Benedict said.

"We're trying to get over the top of that and play four quarters of consistency both offensively and defensively."

He was pleased with the energy and heart his players showed against West, and wants to see more of that in the future, with better-balanced team efforts.

Lebanon (2-7 MWC) played at Woodburn on Tuesday; results were not available at press time.

"We want to get after Woodburn and play a good game at home and get some confidence going," Benedict said.

Friday, the Warriors travel to league-leading Corvallis, where Benedict hopes the Warriors leave it all on the court.

"We've got nothing to lose to go and give them all we got," he said.
