Fall, winter alumni athletes doing well

It's a time of transition in the sports world. Local alumni athletes from both fall and winter seasons have recently contributed to the success of their post-high school teams.

Alex Bourne (LHS '07), a sophomore at Western Oregon University , was 1-for-3 from the field with one rebound and one assist in the Wolves' 103-72 exhibition win over Corban College on Nov. 11.

Jorden Burrows (LHS '07), a sophomore setter at Western Oregon University, had three kills, 21 assists, one dig and one block in Western's 3-1 win over Western Washington on Nov. 6. Burrows had 16 assists and two blocks in the Wolves' 3-2 victory over Central Washington on Nov. 8. On Nov. 13, she had 24 assists, two kills and six digs as WOU defeated Northwest Nazarene 3-1 to claim the Great Northwest Athletic Conference title.

The Wolves, ranked No. 20 nationally, were 22-2 overall as of Nov. 13. On Thursday, they play Cal Poly Pomona in the first round of the NCAA Div. II championship tournament in California.

Caleb Goins (ELCA '08), a freshman cross country athlete at Corban College, was 12th overall at the Cascade Conference Championships held Nov. 8 in Seattle. Goins led the Warriors over the 8-kilometer course in 26 minutes, 22 seconds as Corban placed fifth overall.

Bekah Johnson (LHS '07), a sophomore basketball player at Hesston College in Kansas, had one point and two rebounds in the Larks' win over Hillsdale Free Will Baptist on Nov. 3. She also had one rebound and two points in Hesston's loss to Highland on Nov. 5. Johnson recorded four rebounds in a Nov. 15 loss to Johnson County.

Amy Renfro (ELCA '08), a freshman cross country athlete at Corban College, was 24th overall at the Cascade Conference Championships in Seattle on Nov. 8. Renfro covered the 5-kilometer course in 19 minutes, 25 seconds to place second on the team and help Corban to a fourth place finish.
