The Lebanon men's soccer team ended a disappointing season on a high note last week with wins over Silverton and Dallas.
After making the state playoffs for the first time in school history last year and returning a number of the same players, the Warriors finished 6-7-1 overall and 2-5 in the Mid-Willamette Conference.
But as coach Dave Albion put it, most people will remember how you finish.
On Oct. 27, Lebanon scored three early goals and never looked back in a 5-2 win at Silverton.
Last year's conference scoring leader Yovanni Alvarez scored three goals to guide the Warriors.
"I thought we were pretty aggressive at times," Albion said. "I thought we passed the ball really well."
Alex Albion added two goals, one in each half.
The final goal, by Alvarez, came on a series of one-touch passes. Jeremy Gaetjens earned the assist.
"When we pass the ball this is a fun team to watch," Albion said. "When we decide to try and take on people ourselves, we're frustrating."
The final game of the season, at home against Dallas on Oct. 30, was a 3-1 win for the Warriors.
The Dragons scored the first goal of the game, but Alvarez responded in the 26th minute to knot the game at 1 at halftime.
Seniors were recognized at halftime and Dane Steeves, one of the upperclassmen, predicted he would get the first goal of his varsity career in the second half.
Following an Alex Albion goal in the 59th minute that would put Lebanon up for good, Steeves took the ball on the left side and slid a shot past the goalkeeper.
"He confidently came down and shot a rocket in the net," Albion said. "The kids just went crazy."
Following the game, Albion got the Gatorade bucket dumped on him.
"I tried to outrun them but I couldn't," he said.
Although it obviously wasn't the way the Warriors wanted to end the season, it can be used as a building year for 2010.
"Hopefully we can learn from our adventures," Albion said.
