East Linn Christian's Hannah Whitehead set personal records in the 100- and 200-meter dashes May 1 at the PAC West/Tri-River Conference Twilight meet at Scio High School. Whitehead also placed second in the 400 and fourth in the triple jump.
"Hannah had an exceptional day," said ELCA coach Gary Timms.
Other Eagles with excellent performances included freshman Austin Koos, who improved his best in the 400 to 54.54 seconds and placed third.
Kristen Lawyer dropped a little from her best 800 time to finish sixth in 2:42.26.
Ryan Lawyer set a PR in the 3,000 (10:42.65) and was seventh.
Caleb Goins finished the men's 800-meter run in 1 minute, 59.60 seconds, winning the race and setting a new school record in the process.
The ELCA men's 4 x 4 relay of Alex Coakley, Koos, Jake Glender and Elijah Engwall easily outdid the competition, winning in 3:39.75.
"The 4-by-4 just keeps improving," Timms said, noting the young team includes two freshmen (Coakley and Koos), one sophomore (Glender) and one junior (Engwall).
Thrower Austin Warren added more than two feet to his best in the discus, recording a mark of 125 feet, 8 inches for third place.
It was the Eagles' final competition before the Tri-River Conference district championships. Notably missing from action was senior Amy Renfro, who suffered a foot injury a few weeks ago. Renfro has qualified for the state meet every year since she was a freshman, and ranked in the top 10 reported times in the 2A in the 400, 800, 1,500 and 3,000. She also has one of the best marks in the state in the pole vault. Her status for the TRC district meet is uncertain.
The district meet takes place May 8 and 10 at Western Oregon University, which also is the site of the 2A state championships. Several East Linn athletes will be looking for state berths at the district competition.
Defending conference champion Goins has run automatic state qualifying times in the 800, the 1,500 and the 3,000, but those times only count towards state at the district meet. He will run the 1,500 and 3,000.
Other East Linn athletes in contention for league titles include Warren (shot put and discus), Whitehead (sprints, jumps), Koos (sprints) and the men's 1,600-meter relay team.
The TRC championships begin with field events at 1 p.m. on May 8. On Saturday, field events start at noon and races at 1 p.m.
