Four men and one woman will represent Lebanon at the state track and field meet after placing in the top two at the Mid-Willamette Conference District Meet May 12-13 at Western Oregon University in Monmouth.
Brendon Richards, Marcus Greenly, Flint Yoder and Jake Flanigan qualified for state for the men and Sierra Engler will be Lebanon's female representative.
The top finishers in each event automatically qualified for the state meet, which will be held May 22-23 at the University of Oregon in Eugene.
Richards was the Warrior men's lone event champion, taking first place in both hurdles events.
He finished the 110-meter hurdles in 15.98 seconds and the 300-meter hurdles in 41.97 seconds.
Richards has dominated the hurdles events all year long and Lebanon coach Rob Allen said he expects a good showing at the state meet.
"Brendon's in events where anything can happen and it's just really exciting for him," Allen said.
Greenly will compete in the long jump at state after taking second at districts, reaching a distance of 20 feet, 3 inches.
Yoder was runner-up in the triple jump with a leap of 40-9.25 and Flanigan took second in the shot put with a toss of 44-1.75.
As a team, the men finished a better-than-expected fourth place.
"I was really pleased at how well our boys did," Allen said. "Our kids competed really well."
Engler, a senior, took the title in the 300-meter hurdles and will be joining the four men at state.
She finished in a time of 48.63.
"I was really pleased with how well Sierra did, especially since it's her senior year," Allen said. "She's competing in an event that's brand new and we're just so excited for her."
Engler just missed out on qualifying in the 400 after taking third place at districts.
Greenly is the only current member of the track team with state experience.
He finished 13th in the triple jump at last year's state meet.
Allen said the goal for the five competitors is to take it day-by-day and advance as far as possible.
"We're going to try and make it to the finals and move up the ladder as far as we can," Allen said.
