Oregon Institute of Technology is preparing to roll out an online degree program in Operations Management beginning in the fall of 2008. Students completing the OM degree in this manner need not relocate to complete an education - an attractive prospect for students juggling careers, families and other responsibilities.
The bachelor's degree program in OM is uniquely structured to build partnerships with community colleges. In most cases, OIT offers students the opportunity to complete up to 119 credits at a partnering community college. The final 64 credits needed to complete the bachelor's degree in OM are then completed through OIT online via distance education.
The OM degree prepares students for careers in industrial and operations management by teaching them mastery in a wide array of skills, including microcomputer technology and software applications, which gives graduates a competitive edge in the job market. Graduates are also prepared to accept management roles in the challenging environment of modern manufacturing and service industries. Sample job titles include: production planner, inventory control analyst, industrial engineer, production supervisor and quality control manager. Typical departments in which graduates find themselves working are manufacturing, manufacturing engineering, industrial engineering, production control, finance and quality assurance. An OM degree also prepares graduates for continued education, such as an MBA program.
An additional online partnership is currently being cultivated with Linn-Benton Community College. Other Oregon community colleges are expected to follow. To learn more about management degrees at OIT, visit www.oit.edu.
