DMV not taking credit, debt card

Automated teller machines located in most of Oregon DMV's field offices will be temporarily unavailable this summer, so DMV urges customers to bring enough cash or their check books to do business at the field offices. DMV cannot accept credit or debit card payments at field offices.

DMV has entered a contract with a new ATM provider, and the previous provider was scheduled to have its machines removed from DMV field offices by the end of July.

Other ATMs may be available near DMV field offices, so customers who need one are encouraged to ask DMV staff if they know of a machine

nearby.

The new provider, First National ATM, has agreed to install its machines within 90 days of the new contract's start date, which was Aug. 1. However, DMV expects the company will be able to complete installation within about 60 days.

Five additional field offices will get ATMs under the new contract for a total of 57 out of DMV's 67 field offices. The offices that will get ATMs for the first time are: Burns, Canyonville, Cave Junction, Lakeview and Lincoln City.

Customers also will save a few cents, as the ATM vendor's fee will be $1.75 instead of $1.90.

DMV has had ATMs in field offices for the past five years. The service was created as an option for customers who may have forgotten to bring their check books, don't have a checking account or didn't bring enough cash.
