Scouts offer summer camps, programs

Summer camp opportunities for youth grades first through fifth include three different resident camps.

Adventure Cove is an ocean camp located on the beach just south of the Three Capes area. Cub World is located in Clackamas County and includes a western fort, teepees, as well as boxcars boys reside in and experience while at camp.

Butte Creek Scout Ranch located near Silverton is an operating ranch and offers horseback riding and a western town theme.

Boy Scout camps for youth ages 11-20 offer larger challenges that are age appropriate and center around the educational and advancement programs of scouting with lots of fun included. Cost is around $250 for the week including programs, meals and a trained staff.

Camp Meriwether, located on the coast south of the Three Capes area offers an Oceanography program along with lots of outdoor skills and challenges.

Camp Baldwin, located near Mt. Hood, features a horseback riding program as well as mountain hiking and white water rafting.

Camp Pioneer is located in northeast Linn County and is know as the "Jewel of the Cascades" with Mt. Jefferson reflected in the mountain lake where lots of aquatic activities happen and is the base for outpost camping in the Cascades Mountains.

Locally, a day camp program is available at Happy Valley Tree Farm near Lebanon for youth grades first through fifth this fall. The camp is held July 20-24.

The theme is western and youth will be treated to a western stage show each day, western songs and settings, and a wide variety of summer camp activities - crafts, cooking, obstacle course, shooting sports, scout skills and a lunch provided.
