To the editor:
Our current economic recession has taken its toll on homeowners, small business, major industries, governmental agencies and community-oriented services, to name a few entities caught in the wake of financial devastation.
Yet through the dark clouds there seems to be a ray of sunshine beaming down on at least the Lebanon Boys & Girls Club. This organization was in need of a new sound system for its various functions but decided not to purchase one because it was cost prohibitive.
The old system that they are currently using is antiquated, in a state of disrepair, and would be costly to fix. The metaphorical sun's rays came through in the form of the Sons of the American Legion, Squadron 51, when officers Jim Beck, Mel Harringon, and myself appeared at the club one day and asked how we can help in terms of equipment donation.
The club produced a wish list which included a sound system. Two weeks later, a state-of-the-art, U.S.A.-made system valued at approximately $3,000 was delivered to the Boys & Girls Club of Lebanon. This new system surpasses the old one in terms of power and performance and is loaded with all the bells and whistles.
The Sons of American Legion executive staff will be contacting other units of the American Legion Post No. 51 for a joint effort in purchasing a badly-needed storage shed for the Club. Anyone wishing to contributed to the Sons of the American Legion for community and humanitarian programs and projects, please contact Commander Jerry Patton at 409-5755.
