Daniel Arthur Hoagland, MD, 54, of Lebanon, a family physician at Sweet Home Family Medicine, died Monday, Aug. 11, in an accident at a working ranch in Utah. He was there on vacation with his family.

A celebration of life will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday at in the Health Career Training Center at Samaritan Lebanon Community Hospital, 525 N. Santiam Hwy., in Lebanon.

He was born in Bakersfield, Calif., to Robert Merlin Hoagland and Carol Ardalee Elledge Hoagland. He graduated from La Canada High School in La Canada Flintridge, Calif., in 1971, then earned his bachelors degree in biochemistry from Pomona College in Pomona, Calif., in 1975.

He went on to UCLA School of Medicine, where he earned his MD in 1979. Following a three-year residency at UCLA Medical Center, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force for five years. He served at Randolph Air Force Base in Texas and in England, rising to the rank of major.

After his discharge, he joined the Scripps Clinic in Rancho San Diego, Calif., in 1987, as a clinic physician. He moved to Cottage Grove in 1999 and joined Creswell Family Practice. In 2007, he moved to the mid-valley and joined Sweet Home Family Medicine.

Dr. Hoagland married Linnea Lagerquist in 1976. The couple later divorced and in 1994 he married Elizabeth Ann Kull, also known as Ann.

He is survived by his wife Ann; daughters Karen of Lebanon and Erika of San Diego, Calif.; stepson David Sygrove of Creswell; grandchildren David Paul Jr. and Hayley Sygrove; mother Carol Ardalee Hoagland of Arroyo Grande, Calif.; brothers Jim Hoagland of Arroyo Grande and Paul Hoagland of Placerville, Calif.; and sister Kathy Goodwin of Auburn, Wash.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in his name to SafeHaven Humane Society, PO Box 2018, Albany, OR 97321; or Friends of Bark Park, in care of Dog Obedience Academy, 605 Main St., Lebanon, OR 97355.
