Gary Allen Grieve, 56, of Boulder, Colo., died Aug. 2, 2009, at Swedish Denver Hospital.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Aug. 15 at Crist Mortuary in Boulder, Colo. A reception will follow. A second reception will be held in Seattle so his ashes can be scattered closer to his family.

He was born July 26, 1953, in Lebanon. He attended Lebanon schools.

Mr. Grieve attended the University of Oregon, where he studied music.

He married Marcia Rubin in 1978 in Eugene.

Mr. Grieve was a self-taught engineer, who had a successful career in Geographical Engineering Systems in Washington and Colorado.

He and his family moved to Boulder in 2002.

He is survived by his wife Marcia; daughters and sons-in-laws Lisa and Steve Cook, and Rachael and Scott Eaton; mother Martha Grieve; brother and sisters-in-law Doug and Linda Grieve, and Mike and Heather Grieve; sisters Pat and Mary Anne; and grandchildren Nicholas, Olivia, Benjamin and Noble.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that remembrances be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation in the name of his grandson, Benjamin Cook.
