Artists invited to show during festival

Artists are invited to submit their work to the Flower, Art and Quilt Show at the 2009 Strawberry Festival.

The theme is 100 Years of Strawberries.

Art and quilts are displayed at the Evangelical Church Annex, Park and Ash streets, at the Flower Show sponsored by the Lebanon Garden Club.

The shows are open from 1 to 4 p.m. on Friday, June 5 and from noon to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 6.

Artists may submit 3D fine art - painting, drawing and photography - for the annual non-juried show. Horticultural and botanical subjects are preferred.

Art should be framed and ready to hang. Artist contact information should be on the back of each piece submitted.

Votes by viewers will determine the winner of the People's Choice Award.

No sales will be allowed during the show, but artists may indicate if the piece is for sale and contact information will be provided to viewers.

Art work must be delivered to the Evangelical Church Annex between 7 and 9 p.m. on Thursday, June 4 and collected between 4:30 and 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 6.

For more information, call Art Cisneros, art show coordinator, at 258-4074 or e-mail artshow2009@live.

Enter the Strawberry Festival Flower Show

One hundred years of strawberries is also one hundred years of flowers.

The 1909 Strawberry Festival featured displays of both strawberries and roses.

The Flower Show has expanded to other varieties of flower displays.

Entries will be judged in two categories: horticulture and artistic design, with several sections in each. Prizes include sweepstakes, first place, second, place, third place and honorable mention awards.

Horticulture specimens must be fresh grown by the exhibitor. Divisions are roses, perennials, iris, lilies, biennials, annuals, flowering shrubs and trees, and vines.

Artistic design items may not include artificial materials or treated fresh plant material. Themes for the 20 classes were chosen from past festival themes, including 1985, A Carousel of Fun; 2003, Fishing for Strawberries; and 1974, Strawberry Magic.

Exhibitor booklets, with additional information about entry rules, may be obtained at the Lebanon Area Chamber of Commerce, 1040 Park St., and at the Lebanon Express, 90 E. Grant St.

Held at the Evangelical church Annex at Park and Ash streets, the show will be open from 1 to 4 p.m. on Friday, June 5 and from noon to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 6.

Floral entries must be delivered from 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, June 4 or from 7 to 9 a.m. on Friday, June 5. They must be picked up after the show at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 6.

Display your quilts at the Strawberry Festival

The Santiam Scrappers Quilt Guild invites all quilters to enter your quilts for display at the Lebanon Garden Club Flower Show during the Strawberry Festival. All kinds of quilts - heritage, antique or family - will be displayed as space allows.

Hours for the show are 1 to 4:30 p.m. on Friday, June 5 and noon to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 6.

Santiam Scrappers Quilt Guild quilters will do demonstrations at the show. They will show hand quilting skills, proper use of quilting tools, and fabric/color selection techniques. Interactive quilting games will challenge all ages and skills.

Guild quilters will display colorful quilts of their own and will have a quilted car in the grand parade on Saturday. The quilted car will be on display outside the flower show.

Though not a juried show, attendees will have the chance to vote for the "People's Choice" quilt.

Quilt entries must be delivered to the Evangelical Church Annex at Park and Ash streets in Lebanon between 7 and 9 p.m. on Thursday, June 4 and picked up between 4:40 and 5:30 p.m. on Saturday June 6.

For more information or to reserve space for your quilt or quilts, call Peggy Christopherson, 451-4910.
