FISH raffles quilt in fundraiser

FISH of Lebanon volunteers are raffling off a handmade quilt to raise money for the local emergency aid organization.

The light blue quilt filled with golden yellow suns was made by Paulette Stenberg of Waldport.

The quilt, 56-inches by 72-inches, was hand and machine sewn.

Stenberg is a member of the Oregon Coastal Quilters Guild, and has made quilts over the years for FISH, cancer victims and "Operation Home Front."

Tickets are available from any FISH volunteer, or by calling FISH at 259-3200. Tickets cost $1 each or six for $5. The drawing for the handmade quilt will be Nov. 25, and the winner will be notified.

FISH provides emergency food boxes, clothing, help with prescriptions, utilities, gas, rent and other items for Lebanon residents. The current economic downturn has created a significant increase in calls to the FISH phone banks, said FISH treasurer Sharon Follingstad.

"Requests for help with rent and utilities, along with other needs, are up about 75 percent over the same time period last year," Follingstad said. "And unfortunately, donations are down."

To contribute funds to FISH, call a volunteer at 259-3200, or send checks to FISH at PO Box 2477, Lebanon OR 97355.
