High school students can have a sample of college life this summer through Oregon State University's &#8220A Taste of College" program. The two-week summer residential program for teens in grades 10 through 12 lets high school students live in a residence hall on campus, attend college classes and meet with advisers.

The program covers academic and exploratory topics and includes field trips to places such as the Mark Hatfield Marine Science Center in Newport and the tsunami wave research lab on campus.

Students will meet with OSU advisers during the two-week stay and learn the basics of getting into college and being successful there. Critical thinking, learning styles, college writing, leadership and study skills are emphasized. Students also get tips about transitioning from high school to college.

The cost for the program is $2,100, which covers tuition and fees for two OSU credits, as well as all meals and lodging, field trips, instructional materials and staff costs.
