When the auditorium at Lebanon High School was remodeled, they forgot the sound system.
Retired teacher Terri Krebs isn't wasting any time jumping into helping the music program at the high school by kicking off a fundraising effort to replace the sound system.
She is organizing a community musical of "Into the Woods," and everyone is welcome to participate.
Cast has been set
The musical has roles for seven strong male and seven strong female voices.
"They are difficult parts," Krebs said. "There's no chorus in this, although there are several opportunities for surprise cameos."
"We're trying to get a good cast together, so if a lot of people want to be involved, we want them to be involved," Harvey said.
More than cast is needed
Krebs said she will ask a local artist to help in set design, and community members are welcome to help paint and assemble sets and props.
Patty Crenshaw and Gayle Bishop are in charge of costumes.
"I have been costuming my son ever since he's been trick-or-treating," Crenshaw said.
She and Bishop plan to use period costumes. The pair already have a lot of costumes from a Renaissance Fair they may be able to reuse.
"If anyone has any kind of expertise they'd like to help us make things or embellish, they're welcome," Crenshaw said.
To assist with costumes, e-mail Crenshaw at pc317@centurytel. net.
To play in the orchestra pit, contact music teacher Kevin Wong at 451-8555 ext. 1077 or Tori Harvey at 401-5733.
"We have so many talented people in this community it's amazing," Krebs said. "It's a really special community, to see everyone coming to participate."
Established Facebook group
The group, Lebanon High School Alumni Summer Musical, has 72 members.
Krebs said once drama teacher Debbi Edwards saw how many people signed up on the site, she began to get excited about directing the musical.
Krebs and Wong will be directing the orchestra pit and helping with vocals.
Alum Jamie Beck is in charge of advertising and graphic design.
Ray Hendrix will play lead piano for auditions.
Money raised goes into high school
In addition to ticket prices, the group will accept donations.
Pioneer Principal Mark Finch is using his grant-writing experience to aid in the money-raising efforts.
"As the money comes in, we want to see it be an annual event: The Community Musical," Krebs said. "As we get the sound system, then we'll work on lights and costume closets."
The musical is scheduled for Aug. 6 through 8.
