Parent-teacher conference

All parents and/or guardians of students at Lebanon High School can attend the parent-teacher conferences from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Oct. 7 in the LHS Commons and again from 9 to 11:30 a.m. on Oct. 8 in teachers' rooms.

Progress reports will be available for review.

Preschool story time

The Lebanon Public Library will host preschool story time at 11 a.m. on Oct. 8 at the library, 55 Academy St.

This week's theme is colors.

Story time sessions are every Thursday through Nov. 19.

Story time is for children ages 3 to 5.

Ladies' Night Out

It's time for a night out ladies!

The third annual Ladies' Night Out is a fundraiser for two nonprofit organizations: Lebanon Area Habitat for Humanity and Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.

This year the event will take place from 4 to 9 p.m. on Oct. 10, at Santiam Place Event Hall, 139 Main St. Admission is $10.

This year's theme is "happy feet."

Organizers are having a contest to see who brings in the most outrageously decorated pair of shoes.

Vendors, particularly a pedicurist, a reflexologist, and massage therapist, are needed. Call 259-4255 for vendor information.

Pancake breakfast benefits Special Olympics

Support Special Olympics Oregon and enjoy a pancake breakfast from 7 to 10 a.m. on Oct. 10 at Applebee's in Albany.

Cost for the breakfast is $7 and includes bacon, eggs, juice or coffee.

Funds raised directly support the Special Olympics mission and its athletes across the state.

Prime rib dinner

A prime rib dinner will be served at 5:30 p.m. on Oct. 10, at the American Legion, 480 Main St., in Lebanon.

The 39th annual Harvest Ball will be held as well, with proceeds dedicated to help fund the Christmas food basket program.

The program focuses on helping veterans and their families.

Dancing will follow with the Morning Star Band performing.

Chili cook-off

The Lebanon Elks Lodge will host a chili cook-off from 1 to 7 p.m. on Oct. 10, in the Elks ballroom.

The cook-off is an opportunity for nonprofit groups to provide information about their organizations, as well as show off their cooking skills.

Customers may taste the chili at the event for a suggested $1 donation.

There will be a judging booth where people can vote for their favorite recipe by putting a dollar donation into the voting jar.

A trophy will be awarded to the nonprofit that wins.

The Elks will provide the facility and tables and is not charging a fee for participation in the cook off.

Hike West River Trail on Oct. 10

Build Lebanon Trails will meet at 10 a.m. on Oct. 10 for a hike of the West River Trail.

Hikers will meet at the Riverview Elementary School parking area.

The hike is about two miles and rated moderate in difficulty.

Hikers will pass through wooded areas with some uneven terrain.

To reach Riverview School from Santiam Highway, travel east onto Russell Drive, and turn left onto Mountain River Drive. Continue a quarter-mile. Riverview School is on the left. Watch for BLT signs and bring cameras: Foliage is pretty this time of year.

Hobo Square Dance

The Sweet Home Squarenaders will host a "Hobo Square Dance" beginning at 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 10 at the Oak Heights school gym located on Sixth and Elm streets in Sweet Home.

The square dance caller will be Jim Voll and Joyce Voll will be the round dance cuer.

Cost is $5 for adults and $4 for youth. Hobo stew will be served at the break.

All are invited to the Healthy Lifestyle and Wellness Fair from 2 to 6 p.m. on Oct. 10 at Lebanon Racquetball and Fitness on the corner of Sherman and Second streets.

Meet community wellness professionals and learn the keys to lead a healthier lifestyle and improve your wellness index.

Meet the new owners of Lebanon Racquetball and Fitness and get your first month free with new membership.

Existing members get entered into a drawing for a racquetball gift basket when a friend joins.

The fair will have door prizes, complementary consultations, wellness screenings and coupons.

Vendors will sell health food, fitness equipment, preventative medicine, acupuncture, chiropractic, detox, weight management and eco-friendly products.
