Planting day at Cheadle Lake

The Lebanon Community Foundation is looking for volunteers to help put three truckloads of donated plants in the ground at Cheadle Lake Park.

Planting day, which the Foundation is calling "Shrubba Hubba," is Nov. 7.

Volunteers should show up at the park at 9 a.m. on Nov. 7. Wear clothing appropriate for the weather. Gloves and boots are advised. Bring planting tools. Heavy-duty wheelbarrows are needed, too.

Free well water nitrate screenings

Willamette Valley well owners are invited to several free nitrate screening clinics to be held this fall. Screening will be available from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Nov. 7, at the Corvallis Saturday Farmers' Market; 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at 877 Walnut St. in Junction City; and Nov. 23 at the OSU Linn County Extension Service Office, Fourth and Lyons, in downtown Albany.

A portion of the Southern Willamette Valley has been designated as a Groundwater Management Area by the Department of Environmental Quality due to elevated nitrate levels in well water. For a free nitrate screening, bring ½ cup of untreated well water in a clean, water-tight container. You may either wait for your results (the test takes five to 10 minutes), or leave your contact information for the results to be delivered after the clinic date.

Hike the Santiam Wagon Trail

A hike of the Santiam Wagon Trail will begin at 10 a.m. on Nov. 14. The event is sponsored by Build Lebanon Trails. A group will meet at Bob Smith Memorial Park and continue on to the Santiam Wagon Road.

Everyone is welcome, including leashed pets.

The hike will last about 30 minutes and cover about 1.5 miles.

Garage sale benefits Foursquare Church

A garage sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Nov. 6, and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Nov. 7 at the Lebanon Foursquare Church, 470 "C" St.

Money from the sale will benefit the Lebanon Foursquare Church.

LBCC fall banquet

The annual Linn-Benton Community College Fall Banquet presented by the LBCC Culinary Arts students will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Nov. 6 in the college's Calapooia Center Commons dining room, 6500 Pacific Blvd. SW, Albany.

Guests will enjoy a three-course prime-rib dinner including all the trimmings, prepared and served by LBCC culinary students. Vegetarian options are available upon advance request.

Entertainment will be provided by the LBCC Choirs. Tickets are $27 per person and must be purchased in advance through the LBCC Culinary Arts Department located in the Calapooia Center, second floor, room CC-214, or by phone at 541-917-4391.

All proceeds support the LBCC Culinary Arts program and the LBCC Choirs.

Preschool story time

The Lebanon Public Library will host preschool story time at 11 a.m. on Nov. 5 at the library, 55 Academy St.

This week's theme is "B is for Bubbles." Story time sessions are every Thursday. Story time is for children ages 3 to 5.

Doll makers, collectors show

The Lebanon doll club is having a doll show, maybe the first in Lebanon.

The show is planned for 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Nov. 7 in the building at Park and Ash streets.

Selling, appraising and displaying dolls, and doll repair will be available.

Admission is $2. Snacks will be available for purchase.

Jam session at senior center

A free country music dance and jam session will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. on Nov. 6 at the Lebanon Senior Center. The jam sessions are held the first Friday of every month. All ages are welcome.

Lebanon Genealogical Society

The Lebanon Genealogical Society will hold their monthly meeting at 12:30 p.m. on Nov. 6, in the community meeting room at the Lebanon Public Library, 55 Academy St. Everyone is welcome.

Medieval Feast, Renaissance Faire

The Lebanon High School music department is hosting its fourth annual Medieval Feast and Renaissance Faire at 5 p.m. on Nov. 7 at the Elks Lodge.

Booth tokens are $1 each.

Dinner will begin at 6:30 p.m. interspersed with music and entertainment. Audience participation is encouraged in all parts of the evening's frolic.

A prize will be given to the best dressed medieval costume.

Dinner tickets are $15 and can be purchased from any LHS choir or band student, or by calling 259-3007 or 451-8555 ext. 1077 and leave a message.

Ticket sales end Oct. 30, no later. All funds raised goes to the LHS music department.

Come to an auction, dinner

A dinner and auction sponsored by the Lebanon Christian Women's Club, will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Nov. 8 at the Lebanon School District office, 485 S. Fifth St. in Lebanon. Cost is $8.50 and includes dinner.

Auctioneer Paul Schultz will auction off items such as decorated Christmas trees, themed baskets, and homemade items.

The guest speaker will be Kathy Dolynuik of Bend, who is teaming up with Nancy Gabert of Stonecroft Ministries in a humorous drama. Music at the event will be provided by Paul and Linda Rowton.

Barnhart town hall

Rep. Phil Barnhart will host a town hall meeting with other Lane and Linn county legislators from 6 to 7 p.m. on Nov. 12 at the Sodaville City Hall, 30723 Sodaville Road.

Barnhart will discuss 2010 February special session plans, opportunities and possible challenges.

Questions and suggestions are welcome.

Italian dinner benefits Scroggins Mill foundation

An all-you-can-eat Italian dinner will be served from 5 to 8 p.m. on Nov. 14 at the Lebanon Elks, 633 Park St.

The dinner costs $10 and includes spaghetti, lasagna, salad and garlic bread.

Proceeds support the Scroggins Mill Rural Heritage Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to the restoration and preservation of the mill.

A 50/50 drawing, silent auction and door prizes will be at the dinner.

Music from World Wars I and II

Take a trip to yesteryear with the Willamette Valley Concert Band as it presents its free Veterans' Day concert, "Music From World Wars I and II."

The concert will be held at 3 p.m. on Nov. 8, at the Russell Tripp Performance Center, Linn-Benton Community College in Albany. No tickets are required.

In addition to the usual marches and patriotic music, the band will feature songs in the Glenn Miller style, some Dixieland tunes and, for the first time, a trio that calls itself The Girls From Company B, recreating the music and sounds of the popular Andrews Sisters from the 1940s. The trio members, recent graduates of the WOU music department, are Sherry Alves, Karley Herrick and Sara Morris.

Noteworthy Duo performs at OSU

Music á la Carte, the Thursday "brown bag" music series at Oregon State University, continues its 40th concert season on Nov. 5, with Noteworthy Duo, a flute and guitar ensemble from Southern California. The concert begins at 12 p.m. in the Memorial Union Lounge on the OSU campus. Admission is free.

Noteworthy Duo is comprised of flutist Lisa Schroeder and guitarist Michael Nigro.
