Eleven children of all ages came for a free orthopedic screening on Oct. 10, hosted by the Linn and Benton County Shrine clubs and Samaritan Lebanon Community Hospital. Parents from Corvallis to Sweet Home brought their kids for the annual screening.
Samaritan health care providers Kate Lane, PA-C, and Mary Wunderle-McIntosh, MD, both of the Park Street Clinic, performed the screenings. They referred eight children to Shriners Hospital in Portland for further evaluation.
In addition, members of the Lebanon Masonic Lodge put together identification kits for 20 kids at the screening.
The identification kits contain a picture and fingerprints of the child.
Shriners hospitals specialize in treating children with orthopedic conditions, burns and scars.
The children who were referred from the screening are eligible for treatment at the Shriners hospital free of charge.
"I was pleased with the percentage of referrals to the Shriners hospital," said Bob Larkman, chairman of the Linn County Shrine Club.
"Even if only one or two are referred, that's still worth it," he continued.
