Princess KaLynn Alley, 18, wishes that people would stop asking her what she does for fun.

Alley spends most of her time involved in various community service organizations, and she loves it.

"It already is fun for me," she said of the many service activities that she devotes her time to.

Perhaps it's because she truly enjoys volunteering her time and energy, but KaLynn seems to be involved with an infinite number of causes.

She's president of the Keystone Club, a leadership group run by the Boys & Girls club; an officer in the National Honor Society; president of DECA, a skills organization; teaches Sunday school at Valley Life Church; and served as the logistics chair for the 2007 Relay for Life of Lebanon.

"It's busy, but I never would say I didn't like it," she said. "I love being busy."

The lifelong Lebanon resident grew up yearning to be a Strawberry Princess.

"I've been wanting to do it forever," she said. And not just for the pretty crown.

"This is a greater level to get involved with the community," she said.

Recently, KaLynn had to miss some of the events associated with being a Strawberry Princess so that she could attend an international DECA competition in Florida. Kalynn and her partner, Amanda Wilson, placed third in Financial Analysis.

"That was quite an accomplishment for us," she said.

Not that KaLynn lacks for accomplishments. She was named the Boys & Girls Club Youth of the Year for 2007. She dances for the LHS Explosion dance team, which won a state championship this year. Like fellow princess Megan Phillips, KaLynn was selected to the all-state team.

KaLynn has been involved with the Boys & Girls Club since she was in eighth grade. From just attending the club to being president of the Keystone Club two years running, KaLynn gives a lot of her time to the club.

"They just kept giving me more responsibility and I liked it," she said. (She squeezed this interview in while helping with the club's annual auction.)

"Being really involved in the community is really my life."

Next year, KaLynn will attend the University of Oregon, where she plans to major in business with an eye towards becoming a manager in the non-profit sector. To do that, she'll do internships in sports marketing to get the necessary experience to enter the area of non-profit management. She expects it will take her six or seven years to finish her education, but that doesn't bother her.

"I like to learn a lot," she said.

Her career focus came about partly due to DECA.

"I really like that organization," she said, noting that it has given her skills and taught her business etiquette. "It's totally narrowed my path for where I want to go in college."

Eventually, she wants to be a CEO.

The past year has given KaLynn the confidence to pursue her lofty goals.

"I've had a lot of accomplishments this year that I'm pretty proud of and worked really hard for," she said. "I never realized how far I could actually get. I surprised myself sometimes."
