The Lebanon City Council last week authorized the expenditure of a $1 million grant from the state to buy 10.2 acres on the south shore of Cheadle Lake. The land is intended for a future boat launch and other park facilities.
The state money comes from the Local Government Grant program, which is specifically for land purchases for parks.
The land was valued at $110,186 per acre; the city paid $97,943 per acre.
The sellers, Al Sullivan and Rick Franklin, also donated road access through an adjacent 27.14-acre lot they own. According to the city's Master Plan for Cheadle Lake, it may purchase the larger parcel at some future date. City Administrator John Hitt said that will happen only if and when money becomes available.
