Seven Oak Middle School

550 Cascade Dr.

Principal: Ed Sansom,

451-8416

Classes start Sept. 2 for all sixth-graders and Sept. 3 for grades seven and eight. For student safety, parents should drop their children off at the southern parking lot near the old Crowfoot School site. Dropping students off near the front office creates a traffic bottleneck and in the past a student was "nudged" by a car trying to exit the parking lot.

Seven Oak hopes to have teachers' grade books online in October so parents may check their children's grades and whether or not they have turned in required assignments.

Teacher Rick George returns to a half-time position integrating Seven Oaks' community garden into classroom curriculum.

Three new teachers join the Seven Oak staff this year: Laura Archer, seventh and eighth grade math; Chad Moore, language arts and reading; and Craig Nelson, technology skills.

All grades start Sept. 2. A free open house barbecue will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sept. 11.

The school has two new teachers, Heather Gunzullis in Benchmark 3 and former temporary special education Diana MacDonald, who is now a half-time teacher.

Pioneer is starting Project Lead the Way pre-engineering courses for sixth-graders. Teacher Rose Gregory received a grant from the national PLW foundation to attend training this past summer at the Oregon Institute of Technology in Klamath Falls. Project Lead the Way courses will tie into science teacher Emily Latimer's Tech Lab to give students a variety of hands-on science and engineering learning experiences.

Riverview School

1011 Mountain River Dr.

Principal: Rynda Gregory,

451-8451

School starts Sept. 3., except kindergarten, which starts Sept. 8. The annual welcome back to school barbecue and get acquainted day is Sept. 2. Classrooms will be open from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. Parents may tour the school and visit with their child's teacher. The community barbecue is from 4:30 to 6 p.m.

The first meeting of Riverview's Parent Teacher Club is Sept. 4 at 6 p.m.

In addition to Rynda Gregory as the new principal, Riverside has three new teachers this year: Melinda Stutz in second grade; David Gillott in physical education and Laura Eason in special education.
