The Rollin' Oldies 18th annual 50s in the Fall car show will be held Sept. 20 at River Park on Grant Street. Last year, the show was held in Academy Square due to construction in River Park, but with construction in full swing in Academy Square, organizers have moved the show back to its original location.
A total of 53 trophies will be handed out.
"We added one more this year, the best of show truck, instead of just a best of show car," explained Gene Crumley, Rollin' Oldies president. Host cars are eligible for only two of the 53 awards: Best host car and best host truck.
Last year, the car club had about 200 entries. All cars and trucks have to be built before 1973 and four-wheel drives are not allowed. Eight people are on the judging committee.
Organizers have seen cars travel from Washington and Idaho to attend the show, and of course, from all over Oregon.
"We have a pretty good base that keeps coming back," Crumley said.
The cars and trucks that return to the event annually are not only expensive, but beautiful.
"We had a pick-up last year that the owners had close to a quarter of a million. It had flames that looked so real it looked like it'd burn you. It was a phenomenal paint job. You see some wild things at car shows," Crumley said.
In addition to the shiny vehicles, music from the '50s will play during the event and the Lebanon High School choir will sing a couple of songs. The scheduled time for the LHS choir to perform was not known at press time. Food will be available from eight food vendors attending and other merchants.
Rain could put a damper on the weekend, with forecasters calling for a cool-down this weekend.
"If it looks like it's going to rain, my wife's car doesn't leave the garage. Car people are touchy about their little beasts. It's the money pit that keeps them going," Crumley joked.
"Three or four years back it rained on us and we had just a little over 100 [cars] that day. Two hundred to 210 is the best we've seen," Crumley said.
Typically, an estimated 500 to 700 people come to look at the cars.
Registration will be held from 9 to 11 a.m., and judging will take place at 2 p.m.
The car show is a major fundraiser for the club, which is a non-profit organization. The club sponsors a scholarship annually, and has about about 100 members.
