New dog park moves forward

Supporters of an off-leash dog park in Lebanon have made significant progress on the goal. A site has been leveled and cleared, and now efforts are underway to take the next steps.

Anyone interested in helping with the effort is invited to attend a meeting at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 6, at the Dog Obedience Academy, 605 Main St.

"We're going to organize a committee that's going to run it, and start fundraising," said Lynn Martin, organizer of Friends of Bark Park, which has lobbied for the park.

The site, next to Gill's Landing, was under the old Grant Street bridge. The park will belong to the city, but maintenance will mostly be the responsibility of Friends of Bark Park.

"It's right on the water; it's really going to be nice," Martin said.

Much of the site prep work was actually done as part of the bridge work, she added.
