On June 19, the Lebanon Parks Committee recommended a site at Gill's Landing for a dog park. The committee also recommended that the creation of the dog park be a priority for the City of Lebanon.
Lynn Martin, who owns the Dog Obedience Academy in Lebanon, formed a group, Friends of Bark Park, that is trying to get a permanent dog park established. At the meeting on June 19, Martin presented information from the group's April 22 meeting. She also distributed pictures of what the park could look like.
Two other sites being reviewed were eliminated as possibilities. One area, near the airport, has restrictions on public gatherings. Another location east of Tennessee Road is reserved for the needs of the wastewater treatment plant.
The site at Gill's landing is between the railroad trestle and the new bridge. When the old bridge is removed, an area about 300 feet by 100 feet will be available.
According to Public Works Director Jim Ruef, there are several reasons that the site is desirable: There are already bathroom facilities and parking on-site; it is day-use only; and the area isn't suitable for many other activities.
The park would belong to the city, but would mostly be maintained by Friends of Bark Park.
