The city of Lebanon's budget committee voted May 23 to send the proposed 2007-08 budget of nearly $60 million on to the city council for adoption. The council will hold a public hearing on the budget at its June 27 meeting.

The budget was approved as presented. No public testimony was offered.

The total budget includes $16.5 million in funds from the bond measure approved by voters in November and two urban renewal districts. The $5.9 million general fund and two urban renewal districts - Northwest Lebanon URD and Cheadle Lake URD - are funded primarily through property taxes.

The general fund provides most of the revenue for police, municipal court, library, parks, and senior and disabled services.

The urban renewal districts provide funding for public improvements such as streets, water and sewer within their boundaries.

The budget committee is made up of Mayor Ken Toombs and six city councilors as well as six other citizens. Councilors are Tim Fox, Ray Weldon, Floyd Fisher, Rebecca Grizzle, Bob Elliott and Ronald E. Miller, Jr. The citizen volunteers are Todd Gestrin, David Haley, Janet Blair, Bill Flesher, Mike Lee and Don Thoma.
