The annual "Concerts in the Park" will start on Tuesday, July 7 with something extra n two concerts. All concerts, held at Ralston Park, are free, courtesy of local sponsors.
A local band, Radio, will play rock 'n' roll at 5:30 p.m.
The 55-member Willamette Valley Concert Band follows at 6:30 p.m. with marches, show tunes and more. Members of the band are teens to seniors from all around the mid-valley. The group, formed in 1970, is conducted by Richard Sorenson, Ph.D., retired music director from Western Oregon University.
The London Flush of Eugene is booked for a 6 p.m. start on July 14. The goal of the group is to "capture the sound, vibe and the feel of the original 'Yardbirds,'" according to the group's page on MySpace Music. Members are Steve Harvel on lead vocals and percussion, Pete Weinberger on lead guitar, John Barley on bass and vocals, George Nash on rhythm guitar and harmonica, and Jimmy Doucette on drums.
A week later, J.T. and the Tourists return to Lebanon with classic rock at 6 p.m. In addition to replicating the sounds of the 1940s through the 1990s, they perform original songs. Members are band leader J.T. Meier on guitar and vocals, Leon Forrest on keyboard and vocals, Mik Gobel on bass and vocals, and Rob Green on drums and vocals.
The last concert of the series will be the Albany Swing Band at 6 p.m. on July 28 with the big band sound of the 1940s. Dancing is encouraged.
