Pregnancy Center finds interim home

The Pregnancy Altern-atives Center has found a temporary site to operate from after its building at 126 Vine St. was severely damaged by arson fire last month.

The organization is renting a house at 193 Vine St. to assist clients until work is done on the damaged building. The temporary site will open Oct. 13.

Currently the building's roof is being replaced and workers hope to have most of the necessary repairs made before winter fully sets in, said executive director Debbie Tracy.

An ultrasound machine, which was rescued from the blaze but suffered water and smoke damage, is being evaluated by the manufacturer to see if and how it is compromised. The machine is insured.

Most of the furniture in the building was destroyed.

Investigating authorities have possession of the center's computers, but Tracy said it's unlikely they will be usable.

The FBI has raised its reward from $5,000 to $10,000 for information leading to the identification, arrest and conviction of the person or people responsible for the arson.
