Two new candidates sign up for school board election

Two more people - Ralph Gaston and Jane Ruck - have filed to run for Lebanon School Board.

Four positions are open. The deadline to file candidacy papers with the Linn County Clerk is 5 p.m. on March 19.

Gaston was appointed to serve on the Lebanon Community School District Budget Committee. He filed in Zone 5 and had no opponent at press time.

According to filing papers, he is a certified public accountant with more than 25 years as an accounting professional.

He is a graduate of Bethel Senior High School, University of Tampa (BS), and Seattle University (MBA).

He has served as a member of the Lebanon Foursquare Church Council.

He said in filing papers that he attends Lebanon Community School District and People Involved in Education board meetings.

He supports the Boys & Girls Club of Lebanon and Cub Scout Troop 350.

Ruck is running in Zone 2. Incumbent Rick Alexander also has filed for the position.

She holds a bachelor of arts degree in history from Fairleigh Dickenson University. She received certification in elementary education from the University of South Florida. She graduated from Wayne Valley High School.

Ruck is a religious services volunteer for the Oregon Department of Corrections.

According to her filing paperwork, she has volunteered with the Lebanon Community School District, Linn County CASA and Sweet Home Gleaners.

Other candidates are Russ McUne in Zone 1 and Michael Martin in Zone 3.

Debi Shimmin, who is not up for election, represents Zone 4.

Zones are organized by precincts as follows:

• 1 n Precincts 31, 51, 66, and parts of 41 and 140. (Lacomb, Gore and Tennessee areas)

• 2 - Precincts 21, 23, 45 and 86. (Hamilton Creek, Sand Ridge, Sodaville and Fairview areas)

• 3 - Precincts 70, 78 and 79 and parts of 36 and 41. (Crowfoot, Waterloo and south Lebanon areas)

• 4 - Precincts 37, 38 and 39. (North Lebanon)

• 5 - Precincts 57, 88 and 108 and part of 36. (West Lebanon)
