May 7: Three children were taken from a Lebanon home by their non-custodial parents, Charles Agosto and Julia Anne Payne, on Saturday. The children are boys Izaya Agosto Payne, 4, and Isacc Agosto Payne, 2 and sister Saije Payne, 9. They had been placed in the custody of a family member about a week before.

May 7: Metal thefts damaged two Consumer's Power electrical substations on April 21 and 22, leaving about 4,000 Lebanon area residents without power for about five hours.

May 7: Former Lebanon city councilor and community volunteer John Richard died on May 1 at the age of 80. The survivor of the Chosin battles behind enemy lines in the Korean War served on the council for a total of 13 years. He and his wife Helen owned Strawberry City Coffee Shop for about 11 years and were instrumental in starting the Lebanon Soup Kitchen.

May 14: Lebanon's Senior Federal Baseball team took second place in a tourney held in Portland. The 13- and 14-year-old players went undefeated in four games to reach the championship game. The team later won the league title.

May 14: LHS tennis player Chris Meek qualified for the 5A state championships with a fourth-place finish in the Mid-Willamette Conference.

May 14. The Warrior softball team is on its way to state play-offs following a 10-inning, one-run win over Crescent Valley on Friday.

May 14: The East Linn Christian Academy track and field team is headed to the 2A state meet, with its 4x4 relay team the top seed.

May 14: The effort by supporters of the OSU Extension Service and 4-H to gather signatures to put a measure on the ballot in November to form a district to help fund the programs was successful. They gathered more than 12,000 signatures; 8,603 valid signatures were needed.

May 21: In temperatures of 90 to 100 degrees, the ELCA track team came home with several medals and a state championship for the 1,600-meter relay team of Jake Glender, Elijah Engwall, Austin Koos and Caleb Goins. Goins also won two second-place medals and Koos a third.

May 21: Despite temperatures of 100 degrees-plus, the water in local rivers and streams is running cold and fast with snow melt. The Linn County Sheriff's office cautions water enthusiasts to use extreme caution.

May 28: Homes near Second and "E" streets were evacuated Friday morning after calls to police that a man was pointing a handgun at people in the area. Police blocked off streets and established contact with Randy Garcia, 29, who later left the home and was taken into custody. The possibility that Garcia's wife was being held against her will caused officers to treat it as a hostage situation. It turned out that she remained in the home by choice.

May 28: The school district's budget committee OK'd a budget that includes cuts in 8.5 teaching positions and may include reductions of classified positions. The budget is $1.9 million under the 2007-08 budget.

May 28: Mrs. B's Crystal Quail and the adjacent office of chiropractor Ronald Combe were burglarized on May 15, the second time this year.

May 28: Local election results: Rep. Sherrie Springer (R-Lacomb) will face Dan Thackaberry (D-Lebanon) in the fall for the Oregon House District 17 seat.

Will Tucker (R-Lacomb) will meet Gordon Kirbey (D-Albany) in November for a position on the Linn County Board of Commissioners.

Incumbent Roger Nyquist (R-Albany) will be challenged by Pete Boucot (D-Lebanon) for another Commissioner position.

Fred Girod (R-Stayton) will vie with Bob McDonald (D-Woodburn) in Oregon State District 9.
