A 77-year-old man was arrested by Lebanon Police officers on July 23 for attempting to murder a 99-year-old woman in Southwest Lebanon.
Willis Porter of Sweet Home allegedly entered the woman's home at about 11 a.m. According to the victim, after a brief conversation, he knocked her to the floor, assaulted her, and attempted to suffocate her with a type of cloth. The woman escaped, went to a neighbor's residence and called 911.
"It is unknown exactly what precipitated or what the motivating factor was behind his actions," said Sgt. Det. Kevin Martinez. Porter and the victim were acquaintances.
Martinez declined to identify the woman.
Lebanon police continue to investigate the incident.
Porter is lodged in the Linn County Jail and faces charges of attempted murder, strangulation, and second-degree attempted assault. His security is set for $250,000. He is scheduled to appear in Linn County Circuit Court at 8:30 a.m. on Aug. 11.
