Three sign up for school board

Candidates include incumbents Alexander, McUne

Three people - Rick Alexander, Russ McUne and Michael Martin - have filed to run for Lebanon School Board.

Four positions are open. The deadline to file candidacy papers with the Linn County Clerk is 5 p.m. on March 19.

Alexander is finishing his sixth year on the board. He ran and won in 2003 and 2005. He filed in Zone 2.

He has been a vocal school board member, speaking in favor of Sand Ridge Charter School and against former Superintendent Jim Robinson.

According to his filing papers, he is self-employed, attended Prescott Senior High School (Arizona) and was formerly a member of the Lebanon Planning Commission.

McUne was appointed to the Zone 1 position on the school board in July 2008 after Sherrie Sprenger resigned.

According to filing papers he is an emergency physician with Albany Emergency Physicians Services and medical director for Albany and Tangent Fire Districts. He is a graduate of Bonneville High School, Ricks College (AAS), Idaho State University (BS) and University of Washington Medical School (MD).

Michael Martin is a candidate for the Zone 3 seat.

He is self-employed as a consultant for Sound Reproductions and spent 33 years as a teacher in Salem/Keizer, Corvallis and Philomath school districts.

He has a bachelor of arts degree in education from Pacific Lutheran University and attended graduate studies in education at the University of Washington, Oregon State University and University of Oregon.

He is a member of the board of elders of Westwood Community Church.

No one had filed for the open Zone 5 seat as of Monday afternoon.

Debi Shimmin, who is not up for election, represents Zone 4.

Zones are organized by precincts as follows:

• 1 n Precincts 31, 51, 66, and parts of 41 and 140. (Lacomb, Gore and Tennessee areas)

• 2 - Precincts 21, 23, 45 and 86. (Hamilton Creek, Sand Ridge, Sodaville and Fairview areas)

• 3 - Precincts 70, 78 and 79 and parts of 36 and 41. (Crowfoot, Waterloo and south Lebanon areas)

• 4 - Precincts 37, 38 and 39. (North Lebanon)

• 5 - Precincts 57, 88 and 108 and part of 36. (West Lebanon)
