A 49-year-old man shot himself in the foot early Monday morning while in a motorhome in the parking lot of the Lebanon Community Pool.
The man was identified as Michael James Harris of Albany. According to Capt. Mike Schulte of the Lebanon Police Department, Harris was at the pool with his wife and mother when he became hungry and returned to his motorhome for food. While in the motorhome, Harris knocked a small Derringer two-shot pistol from a countertop to the floor, at which point it discharged a bullet into his foot. The bullet was recovered from inside the motorhome.
An investigation into the incident is continuing.
"At this point, we don't know whether we have a crime or something unlawful," Schulte said.
Because the incident occurred in the swimming pool parking lot, which is not a part of the nearby Lebanon High School, it was unclear at the time of press if a crime had been committed or not. No guns are allowed on school property.
The case has been forwarded to the district attorney, Schulte said.
