The Lebanon Gleaners have happily moved into a new space, just days after they were given a 30-day notice to vacate their former building.
The organization is now located at 2437 S. Santiam, across the highway from Bing's restaurant.
On Jan. 16, the Gleaners received a 30-day notice from their landlord. The same day, office manager and board member Naomi Church went to her church and requested a prayer that the group would soon find a new venue. As she left the services, Gleaner coordinator and board member Donna Gagne pulled up, saying she needed Church's vote to approve the new building.
"The couple that was taking me home from church, the guy said, 'Man, that was fast,'" Church said with a laugh.
The new space is a little smaller than they had hoped for, but it's enough.
"We're wiling to make do," Church said. "It's warm and it's clean, there are no sewer leaks."
The Gleaners are still in need of donations, particularly of another freezer, walk-in or hand-in coolers, shelving and a locking file cabinet. Monetary donations are welcome.
The organization accepts applications 365 days a year, Gagne said. Dues are $10 per month per family, plus four volunteer hours each month per family. Food is usually distributed once a week.
The new site is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
The Gleaners may be reached at 451-1085.
