The Linn County Chapter of Oregon Small Woodlands Association is sponsoring a tree seedling sale from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m on Feb. 28 in the Santiam Building at the Linn County Fair and Expo Center at 3700 Knox Butte Road in Albany. The sale will only go on until supplies last.

The following seeds will be on sale: Douglas fir, ponderosa pine, western red cedar, noble fir, grand fir, western hemlock, coast redwood and giant sequoia. The hardwoods and shrubs are White and Pink Rugosa Roses, Carolina allspice, "Ruby Spice" clethra, Chinese pistache, Eastern redbud, Japanese snowbell, Japanese pagoda tree, Kousa dogwood, giant dogwood, Oregon ash, purple smoketree, red alder, Rocky Mountain maple, red Japanese maple, American hornbeam and tulip tree.

Prices for the conifers are $.75 to $1.50 depending on species. The prices for the hardwoods and shrubs are $1.50 to $3. There will be bagged sword available at $5. Native Oregon grape seedlings will also be available at $1 each. Some of the trees are excellent for smaller places around a home, flower in the spring and/or have nice fall colored leaves. Most seedlings will be two-year-old bare root, directly from the nursery.

An information table will be available to view samples, see pictures and read information about the seedlings. An OSU Extension-trained Master Woodland Manager will be there to answer questions and provide information on which trees are best suited for a particular planting site.

Portions of the money earned will be used to help fund the Linn County Chapter's educational programs for youth in Linn County, including forestry camp and college scholarships.
