The Lebanon Fire District is looking for volunteers to supplement its current staff.

Once the two new stations are completed later this year, the district will have five: the main station on Oak Street with full-time personnel, the volunteer stations at Lacomb and Fairview, a new Crowfoot station with full-time personnel, and a new volunteer station in the Berlin area.

Volunteers often are assigned to the station nearest to their home. Some current volunteers will respond from the new stations due to proximity to their residence.

Prospective volunteers must be at least 18 years old and live or work in the fire district or within 20 miles. They are required to fill out an application; pass a background check, an interview and an agility test; and attend and pass the training class.

The required basic training to become a volunteer firefighter involves four weekends, each including a Thursday night, Friday night and all day on Saturday. The classes are offered routinely in March and October and also as needed when the district has a group that is ready. A few other specialized classes must be taken to complete the certification process.

Volunteer drill is on Thursday nights from 7 to 9 p.m.

Assistant Chief Dan Woodson said the district is always looking for motivated people to get involved in the local fire and EMS system.

Anyone who is interested should call 541-451-1901 or stop by the office at 1050 West Oak St.
