A Sweet Home man was injured Monday afternoon when his motorcycle crashed into the back of a slow-moving van on Highway 20 north of Lebanon.

Elmer Kast, 53, of Sweet Home, struck the back of a 2000 Dodge Caravan driven by Nicole Wood, 30, of Lebanon, when Wood slowed to about 5 mph in the westbound lane for another vehicle turning into a driveway near Meredith Drive, according to the Oregon State Police.

On impact Kast and his 1984 Honda motorcycle went airborne, both coming to rest in the westbound lane of Highway 20.

Kast was wearing a protective helmet and received non-life threatening injuries. He was initially transported by ambulance to Lebanon Samaritan Community Hospital and then later transferred to Good Samaritan Hospital in Corvallis.

He was listed in fair condition on Tuesday morning.

Wood was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured in the collision. The accident occurred about 12:54 p.m. and closed Highway 20 in both directions for about 45 minutes.

The accident is under investigation by OSP. The Linn County Sheriff's Office, the Oregon Department of Transportation. Lebanon fire and medic crews assisted at the scene.
