Vinnie's Natural Living isn't gone; it just moved down the block and across the street.
"I don't want people to think the store has gone out of business," said manager Cindy Wells.
The health food store is now at the corner of Maple and Second streets, on the west side. Old-timers remember Pacific Power once occupied the building.
The new location offers more parking and space for expansion, Wells said.
Regular customers will notice a few changes.
Cindy Wells said the supply of gluten-free products has expanded to a full aisle. Gluten-free products are for people with celiac disease, sprue, Crohn's disease - gastrointestinal conditions caused by the body's inability to properly digest gluten, which is a protein in wheat and some other cereals. It also is added to foods as a thickening agent.
She continues to increase the variety of gluten-free items the store carries, including gluten-free beers.
The store has most of the products it carried at the previous location: Bulk herbs, grains and beans, nuts and dried fruits; cosmetics such as sunblocks, soaps and lotions; and packaged foods such as organic honey, pastas and cereals.
It still has the mid-valley's largest selection of supplements - vitamins, minerals, herbs and more.
The store has few fresh vegetables and fruit because they are available from local farms during the summer.
In the freezer, the store has frozen buffalo meat from Lacomb and packaged meals, ice cream, bread and pizza.
Wells is looking for more organic wines and Northwest microbrews.
Customers who want only a few items may drive up to a sliding window for quick service.
Wells tries to stock products not found in other stores. She welcomes special orders.
"We try really hard to find what they're looking for if we don't have it," she said.
Wells was hired by former owner Barbara Brown 11 years ago and has been with the store since. When the Wells family bought the business several years ago, they changed the name from Vital Health to Vinnie's.
