Outdoor enthusiasts may find just what they're looking for in Lebanon with the opening of M2 Outdoor Sports.
Marco Martinez, who runs the place with his wife Karen and parents Jose and Palmira, said they are still building their inventory.
"We had enough people knock on the door, we went ahead and opened the doors on Saturday," Martinez said.
The specialty of the sporting goods store is hunting, fishing, archery and firearms, all catered to the Northwest.
Each member of the family brings a different area of expertise
Martinez is a bass fisherman and archer. His father is a rifle hunter and his son's specialty is handguns.
"If someone comes in and wants to hunt black tail, we can get him set up and pointed in the right direction," Martinez said.
Even so, Martinez said he is always learning from his customers.
He said customers will decide what the store carries, whether it be a particular bait or arrow.
"We don't tell them what they want, we let them tell us what they want," Martinez said. "We're not tied to a corporate office telling us what to carry."
He said that at M2 Outdoor Sports, enthusiasts can find whatever they need to hunt black tail, elk, mule deer, salmon or steelhead.
Soon, hunters will even be able to purchase a hunting or fishing license at the store.
Palmira Martinez said lessons for concealed weapons will be offered in the future.
Meanwhile, the store is getting new inventory every day.
"Guys in this area can look at stuff and play with stuff," Martinez said. "We'll open up anything and let you play with it first."
He said he was inspired to open the shop because he saw a need he could fill.
"When Joe's closed, it left a big gap," Martinez said.
Certain rods and reels formerly found at Joe's will be available at M2 Outdoor Store.
The store will carry Curado reels and Carrot Stick rods.
The Carrot Stick rod is unique as it has carrot fiber in the rod, Martinez said.
This allows it to bend uniformly, rather than having flat parts in it like a standard rod, he said.
"Not a lot of people carry Curados," Martinez said. "It's probably the No. 1 used reel for steelhead."
M2 Outdoor Sports is located at 65 W. Grant St. and is open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday and Tuesday, and Thursday through Saturday. Wednesday hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Hours will fluctuate with the seasons.
Hunting season starts the last week in August and goes right through spring.
"We plan to have an official opening, but don't know when," Martinez said. "We're still waiting for everything to come in."
With fishing season going strong, and shops trying to get stocked for hunting season, Martinez said a lot is backordered.
Martinez said he wants to have a shop where his customers feel comfortable hanging out.
