Fitness awards presented to local residents

The City Council on Nov. 12 presented framed certificates to Lebanon winners of the League of Oregon Cities annual Fitness Leadership awards.

Tim Hindmarsh, M.D., was the winner in the individual category for his Act Alive Decathlon in support of diabetes education in East Linn County. Act Alive features Hindmarsh completing 10 action sports in 24 hours or less. Local residents are invited to participate in the final events, cycling and running.

The group award went to Build Lebanon Trails (BLT), represented by physician Rick Wopat, Nancy Kirks, and Mollie Kerins. Wopat helped BLT get started. Kirks is coordinator of Community Health Initiative Partnership (CHIP), which is the parent organization of BLT, and Kerins is BLT's current president.
