Lebanon Area Habitat for Humanity is searching for low-income renters who have lived within the Lebanon School District for at least a year and are ready to own their own home.

Families are selected on the following criteria: Need for adequate shelter, ability to pay for the Habitat home and willingness to partner with Habitat. Examples of inadequate shelter include structural problems; poor heating, wiring, or plumbing; mildew or rot; a space too small for the size of the family; or paying more than 50 percent of your monthly income for housing.

Habitat homes are sold to families through a no-interest loan. The family should have adequate income to cover the taxes, utilities, insurance and maintenance expenses, as well as the house payments. Habitat is looking for families with a manageable debt burden who many not qualify for a conventional loan.

Families must complete a number of “sweat equity” hours by helping to build the home or doing other volunteer work for Habitat before moving into their own home.
